Friends

They sat there in silence, watching the fire burn.
It crackled and popped, with the smoke going with the wind on the opposite side of which they were sitting. She turns to her friend and says "Are you happy?" he just stares at the fire. a few seconds later he replies "no" She looks back at the fire and says "but, you have everything. You have a bunch of friends, you have girls all over you, and you can party all the time without your parents caring." He glances at her, smiles, and shakes his head. "if only you knew" he says. They sat in silence yet again, while she tries to understand his words. "what don't i know?" He looks at her and says "I've never had anyone to talk to. My friends only like me because i let them party at my house. Girls are all over me, because im all over them, trying to find the right one. I party because it's the only way i can never be alone. My parents don't care. Your right. they don't care about me, or my sister, or anyone else. They don't care about anything that we do. I hold my feelings in, because when i was little, every time i had a problem, my mom wasn't there and my dad would tell me to suck it up. be a man, he'd say. You have no idea how it feels to not have anyone. I'm not happy" he looks back at the fire and waits for her respond. She gets up and walks away. Later he goes inside to find the house empty, a movie on the tv and his friend making popcorn. He looks at her in confusion "Where did everyone go?" she smiles, walks over and hands him the bowl of popcorn. "We're having a movie marathon sleep over" He again looks at her in confusion. She replies again "I thought it would make you happy, at least for now" He grabs her by the arm before she could walk away, hugs her, and says "Trust me, it does"
